A mountain of clothes was donated by people of all backgrounds to the victims of the Pakistani floods.

More than 33 million people are believed to have been affected by monsoon floods across Pakistan, with one in seven homes reported lost.

The Waltham Forest Islamic Association held a donation session at Ghousia Grove Road Hall on Sunday to help victims, but soon collected so many bags the doors had to close early.

Arfan Abrahim, one of the event’s organisers,  said: “We collected a mountain of clothes.

“To put it into quantity, I’d say we could have filled two to three shipping containers.

“We had to close the gates early and signpost to alternative places because we couldn’t accommodate all the clothes.”

He added: “People of all ages, backgrounds and faiths donated.

“It was a reflection of Waltham Forest.”
