A very ‘sweet’ and festive family thing to do will open in London this December.
The Museum of Architecture’s gingerbread city returns to the capital for the seventh year as not only a very magical event for children and adults alike, but an informative one also.
Within the design and concept of the edible, whimsical city, leading architects, engineers and designers have responded to the challenges cities face to create futuristic city made entirely from gingerbread.
Running from December 2-15, and then again from January 2-7, 2024, this epic city has been designed by more than 50 architects and designers, who have responded to the theme Water in Cities.
Visitors will discover a vast city constructed entirely from gingerbread, frosting and sweeties, which has water conservation at the forefront of its design.
They can also look at the gingerbread constructions up close and learn why architects need to design with the water cycle in mind and how innovation in cities can help solve problems like flooding and water shortage.
The city contains everything you would expect to see in a real life city - houses, stations, markets, museums, schools and parks. It even has moving trains and twirling parts.
Relocating from Belgravia, where it used to set up shop when in the capital, the exhibition has now been moved to Westfield London in White City.
Visitors can also get involved in Gingerbread Workshops which see participants make freshly baked gingerbread houses from kits. Available to both adults and children, people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop.
The hour-long workshop is suitable for children aged three-years-old and older.
Tickets start at £18.50/£12.50 for adults/children and are on sale now through tickettailor.com
The Museum of Architectures is a UK-based charity focused on inspiring and connecting the public with architecture and how we create the places we live, work and play.
Gingerbread City also goes on display in New York.
When it opens on December 2, 2024, find it at Westfield London at White Cross, W12 7SL. Once inside the shopping mall, the installation is opposite the clothing store Next.
There are plenty of other Christmassy things to do in London this festive season.
