Voluntary Action Epping Forest Befriending Community Clubs support socially isolated older people with a befriending service across the Epping Forest District.
Weekly clubs operate on a Tuesday in North Weald, Wednesday in Loughton and Waltham Abbey on a Friday. All clubs have availability for people to attend at present.
The service benefits older people by reducing loneliness and social isolation, increasing independence and allowing clients to get involved with their local community. Those aged 65 years or over are welcome. Carers too get short respite while the clubs operate.
Julie Bristow who runs the VAEF Clubs says “Our social activity clubs allow clients to have fun and enjoy themselves, as well as being able to socialise and make new friends.
"We encourage everyone to get involved in games, bingo, arts and craft sessions, quizzes, seated exercises and enjoy being entertained by singing groups”.
As well as offering weekly social clubs, VAEF lays on day trips such as visits to the theatre, boat rides and much more. These outings provide much-needed stimulation to many while improving quality of life. Transport can be provided to clubs if required, small charges do apply.
- If you or someone you know is at risk of isolation, please call VAEF Befriending Community Clubs 07708 171 116 or visit: vaef.org.uk for more information
