It is thought that the avenue of lime trees on Rangers Road (seen here c1940) may have been planted to commemorate Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne in 1837.
However, maps only show evidence of the trees from the early 1880s when Rangers Road was connected to Epping New Road.
Sadly, many of the trees have been lost in recent years and not replaced.
