Stella Creasy has urged people to avoid Walthamstow Central amid rumours of a planned “racist, Islamophobic attack” in the area.

The Walthamstow MP posted a video message on Instagram yesterday evening (August 6) to reassure constituents amid riots across the country.

Violent scenes have played out nationwide over the last week, after three young girls were killed in a stabbing in Southport.

Police forces across the country remain braced for planned unrest this evening after a list threatening disorder at dozens of immigration advice services was published.

Stella Creasy said this has raised fears about the “possibility of a racist Islamophobic attack” near Walthamstow Central station.

The MP revealed that police had told her that “they do not think there is any credibility to this list” but that due to ongoing unrest elsewhere, the possibility of an attack cannot be discounted.

Creasy said: “This absolutely sickens me.

“I have therefore spent the day talking to our local mosque leaders to make sure they know there is extra funding for security, and that any attack, any behaviour would not be in our name and is not welcome in our community, and that we stand with them.”

There will be high levels of police on the streets of Walthamstow Central throughout today in the hope of deterring any potential rioters, Creasy added.

Police have also reportedly said that the best way to help officers is to “stay away from the area so that they can clearly identify those people and apprehend them as soon as possible”.
