Janet Gardner, Principal and CEO, said:

"A huge congratulations to the hundreds of thousands of young people across the country receiving their results today, and well done to all students and their teachers for the hard work and commitment that underpins this. More than 320,000 students have studied for technical and vocational qualifications. This prepares young people with the skills and experiences needed for the future workforce to drive the economy in priority skills sectors such as Engineering, Construction, Health, Digital, Green Skills, Hospitality and Creative.

“Just under half of 16-18 year olds study in colleges across the UK; many are from disadvantaged backgrounds and having to overcome social or economic barriers. Today’s results will help inform the next steps in their career journey. For some, this is straight forward in progressing as planned to Further Education, Higher Education or employment to start their career. For others, it may be more appropriate to review their next steps and take advantage of the range of vocational and technical qualifications available to support the vital stepping stones needed to continue their education and support their progression. This provides an opportunity to progress through different levels, supporting aspirations and progression, giving young people the skills and support they need to progress, and employers to benefit from the diverse range of talent and skills needed.

“It is vital the Government continue to offer a wide choice of vocational and technical qualifications that can be accessed at different levels to suit individual needs and circumstances, and support young people to thrive and succeed, securing the diverse pipeline of talent for the future, needed by employers.”

Waltham Forest College has a wide range of vocational and technical courses and apprenticeship routes for GSCE students awaiting results.
