The Jubilee Retreat on Bury Road, Chingford, seen here in the late 1890s, was opened in 1887, the same year as Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, hence the name.
The retreat was one of many that sprang up at this time to provide refreshments for the visitors of Epping Forest.
These retreats were run in accordance with the temperance movement so no alcoholic refreshments were available.
The retreat closed at the outbreak of World War Two when it was requisitioned for refugees and is now a club house for the Orion Harriers.
