A man has died after two vans and a lorry crashed on a major road.

Police were called at around 4.50am today (October 2) to reports of a crash involving vehicles on the eastbound carriageway of the A406 North Circular in Chingford.

The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service (LAS) also attended.

A man, who was the driver of one of the vehicles, died at the scene, Scotland Yard said.

His next of kin has been informed.

There were no reports of any other serious injuries.

A spokesperson from LFB earlier told this paper a person had been taken to hospital.

LAS sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.
 
A LAS spokesperson added: “Our crews treated a man at the scene. Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene.”

The crash happened near the River Lea in South Chingford.

The A406 eastbound from Cooks Ferry Interchange remains closed to Hall Lane.

There has been no arrest and enquiries into the circumstances continue.
