In response to the recent cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance, Voluntary Action Epping Forest (VAEF) is urging residents to check their eligibility for Pension Credit and other benefits, especially those who are housebound or caring for others.
With many older residents facing increased financial pressures, VAEF’s Benefits Advice service provides vital support to ensure that no one misses out on financial help they are entitled to.
Pension Credit is an often-overlooked benefit that can top up the weekly income of pensioners who fall below certain thresholds. In addition to this, Pension Credit recipients may be entitled to other financial aid, including housing costs, council tax reductions and help with heating bills.
VAEF Benefits Advice offers personalised guidance for housebound residents and carers, including help with navigating the application process, understanding eligibility and ensuring all available benefits are accessed.
The service is tailored to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of the Epping Forest community who may find it difficult to access mainstream support.
The service offers free confidential advice on benefits and entitlements and assistance with applications for Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, Carer's Allowance and other benefits.
Home visits can be arranged for those who are housebound or unable to attend in person ensuring residents and carers, ensuring they access all financial assistance available to them.
Jacqui Foile, chief officer of VAEF, emphasised the importance of reaching out for support:
“Many pensioners and carers are unaware of the benefits they could be receiving.
"With the ongoing changes to allowances like the Winter Fuel Payment, those who qualify for additional financial support must come forward.
"Our dedicated team is here to make sure that residents and carers in Epping Forest get the help they deserve, right from their own homes.”
