Once and a while it can be a nice treat to enjoy a drink or two at the local pub after a busy day at work.

Often you'll be walking home past crowds of people outside pubs holding a pint of beer into the late hours of the day.

However, some Londoners recently found themselves in disbelief after discovering that a central London pub closed its doors at 10pm on a weekday.

Londoners outraged as pub stopped serving beer at 9.20pm

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user on the social media shared her disbelief at the unnamed pub , tweeting: "Central London. Last orders at 9:20. Pub shut at 10. Literally why?"

Gaining more than 2.7 million views, many others agreed with the X post as one person commented: "Closing at 10 is bad enough but I haaaate when they do last orders so far removed from closing time.

"It just creates a "get the hell out of here vibe" and it's no longer chill."

Others suggested that the earlier closure time was due to the pub visit being not being at peak times, sharing: "Their choice, either lack of staff or lack of customers.

"Attitudes to pubs have changed over the years, and they can't afford to keep them open as long as they used to in case someone might pop in."

Another added that it may be down to licensing in that particular area of Central London: "Likely due to licensing restrictions or neighbourhood policies designed to limit late-night disruptions, especially in areas with a high residential density.

"It’s all about controlling noise and public order after peak drinking hours. Annoying, but it’s policy, not profit."

Others who have visited the area for a long time said it's 'always' been that way: "Been like that in the City for years - I remember a drink up in 1993 that finished at a similar time. In other parts of London it's generally 11 or sometimes later."
