Drivers of non-compliant vehicles under the ULEZ scheme will be able to drive their cars without facing a £12.50 fine for one day this December.
The ULEZ scheme came into effect in April 2019 and now covers the whole of London, meaning that drivers of non-compliant vehicles must pay a £12.50 fee to drive their vehicle in London.
However, this charge will not apply for one day in December – Christmas Day – meaning that drivers of these vehicles will be able to drive them without facing the charge for 24 hours from midnight until midnight on December 25.
The Mayor and London Assembly website states that “The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year, except Christmas Day.”
Drivers wishing to drive non-compliant vehicles on December 25 will be able to do so without facing charge, however this is the only bank holiday that the charges will not apply, with the charge coming back into effect on Boxing Day (December 26).
Similarly, London’s Congestion Charge covering Central London will not apply on Christmas Day, and the exemption will run for eight days up until midnight on New Year’s Day (January 1).
