Schoolchildren visited the Houses of Parliament to discuss with MPs about creating a greener economy in the future.
Pupils from South Woodford’s Churchfields Junior School took part in a Solar for Schools showcase at Westminster promoting sustainability education in schools.
Solar for Schools programme co-founder Robert Schrimpff warned about the importance of teaching the next generation about a greener economy.
“We are currently not going fast enough,” he told the MPs. “We have a moral responsibility to children to accelerate the pace of change.
“Initiatives like installing solar panels on school rooftops are instrumental in making this a reality.”
The event, attended by 17 MPs, brought together policymakers, industry experts, teachers and their pupils to discuss the future of renewable energy and sustainability education.
Chuchfields Junior was joined by pupils from schools up and down the country to show how they have put sustainability into the curriculum.
It was also given a Solar Explorer kit from Triodos Bank to use in the classroom.
The school had 350 solar panels installed in the summer to generate most of its electricity needs.
Solar for Schools, which put on the presentation with Chamber UK and National Grid, has reached 200 schools so far and has educated 100,000 pupils about energy and sustainability.
