DAGENHAM and Redbridge captain Solomon Taiwo insists League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers will only be allowed to play on the Daggers' terms when they visit Victoria Road to face one of the division's form sides this weekend.
John Still's men took their unbeaten run to five games with a 1-1 draw at Rotherham, although they were seconds away from infiltrating the three automatic promotion places for the first time this season, only for Matt Ritchie's goal to be cancelled out in the dying embers of the game by Ian Sharps' strike.
Nevertheless, the team lie just two points adrift off Bradford in third, and Taiwo insists confidence is sky high in the camp. The midfielder has warned runaway leaders Wycombe that they can expect a rough ride on Saturday, insisting the Daggers are capable of inflicting what would be only a second league defeat on Peter Taylor's troops.
“We're definitely confident we can put some goals past them,” said the skipper, who has seen his side bombard opponents' goals throughout the campaign to establish themselves as the league's top scorers with 46 goals in just 23 games. “We need to get the balance right between attack and defence on the day because we know it's going to be a tough, tough game.
“But they will have to play on our terms – no-one wants to come to our place and play us at the moment.”
While the team have demonstrated a soft core when the going gets tough in years gone by, Taiwo insists there is no danger of that happening this time around, and he is adamant they will be in the mix come the business end of the season.
“Saturday is a chance for us to prove a point, to say that we will do something this year. We've started to lose games before but that's not going to happen this season.
“Last week's draw at Rotherham felt like a loss and I think that shows how far we've come.”
Goalkeeper Tony Roberts had to be on the top of his game to prevent his side from falling behind as the Daggers started slowly. But they eventually found their feet and took the lead early in the second half when Ritchie rose to nod home from close range.
The goalscorer could have grabbed a second when he pounced on a loose ball, but after rounding keeper David Stockdale he went down, only for the referee to wave away claims for a penalty, while Ben Strevens was later denied by the Rotherham stopper when clean through.
The visitors were made to rue their missed chances as Sharps was quickest to a deflected free-kick and he fired home with virtually the last kick of the game to earn a point.
