SOME of Redbridge's leading religious figures have spoken out in a joint statement about the conflict being waged in Gaza.
The comments come after eleven days of fighting in the Middle Eastern territory, which has seen the deaths of more than 560 Palestinians and five Israelis.
Rev Robert Hampson, vicar of the Holy Trinity Church in South Woodford, Mohammed Azam, executive member of Ilford Mosque, and David Hulbert, Rabbi of Bet Tikveh Synagogue in Newbury Park, said in a joint statement: "We of the East London Three Faiths Forum deeply regret the war in Gaza.
"We deplore the loss of innocent life.
"We recognize that the roots of this conflict go far back, and the polarization of positions on both sides has become almost irreconcilable.
"However we believe we can find a way to break this vicious cycle because we believe in God whose will is for salvation of all.
"Therefore we here in East London are doing everything we can to join as Jew, Christian and Muslim in mutual respect and friendship.
"We have been very successful and pray for others to join us and experience this too."
