ELDERLY people on an estate are being warned about scam artists posing as staff from a pharmacy.
People on the Oakwood Hill Estate, in Loughton, have been receiving phone calls from men posing as members of Oakwood Pharmacy, in Roding Road.
Pharmacy owner Paul Mellis said: “A couple of older people have said that they’ve received phone calls from people from our pharmacy saying: ‘Can we deliver your medicines?’ We do deliver to people but it’s all pre-arranged. We don’t just ring people up asking to deliver medicines.
“We are just concerned. Old people are quite vulnerable. One person targeted was a 97-year-old in a wheelchair. It only takes one person to let someone in. If people are not sure, they can call the pharmacy on 020 8508 1138.”
Secretary of Oakwood Hall Senior Citizens’ club Betty Saggers said: “Personally I’m not concerned as I’ve got the common sense to realise there might be a scam, but I would be concerned about more vulnerable people. They might have taken out a prescription with Paul and then these people will knock on the door and say we’ve got your prescription and be let in.”
