THE BBC has paid to repair damage caused to a lake during the filming of an episode of Eastenders.

The dramatic Christmas edition was set at Connaught Water, on the border of Buckhurst Hill and Loughton.

Large vehicles used during the filming damaged the area and a number of complaints were made to the City of London Corporation who manage the lake.

A spokeswoman for the corporation said: "Last year the BBC completed four days filming at Connaught Water for the 'EastEnders Christmas cliff hanger.' The production crew's large vehicles left wheel marks, and the temporary removal of site furniture and liberal use of artificial snow prompted some critical feedback from regular users of Connaught Water. The BBC has fully funded the tidying of the site and the repair of a bench."
