A LEYTONSTONE school this week played host to an exhibition put on by the Anne Frank Trust.
The Trust visited Tom Hood Community Science College as part of the pupils’ studies on World War II and the Holocaust and also to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27.
Students were given the opportunity to view the exhibition, as well as participating in workshops run by the Trust in place of their usual history and drama lessons.
History teacher Andrew Barnett said: “Our students really enjoyed this unique learning experience. The Anne Frank Trust is a fantastic project that really brings learning to life and links history to the lives of our young people.
“We are really excited about the prospect of opening the exhibition to the public and developing links with our community.”
The project aims to use messages drawn from the story of Anne Frank to promote an understanding among modern teenagers of human rights, democracy and respect.
The week of events marks Holocaust Memorial Day as well as the 80th anniversary year of Anne Frank’s birth.
Tom Hood will also be opening the exhibition to the public on Monday January 19 from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Mr Barnett added: “We are delighted that Eva Schloss, Anne Frank's stepsister and a Holocaust Survivor, will speak at this event - everyone is welcome.”
