A RETIRED dentist is preparing for a 300-mile bike ride through Southeast Asia to raise money for an animal welfare charity.
Sian Edwards, 54, of Palace Gardens, Buckhurst Hill, has been doing 20-mile rides everyday in preparation for the gruelling challenge on February 22.
Starting in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, and riding in 30 degree heat and extreme humidity, she will finish near Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Sian, who ran the White House Dental Surgery in Roding View, Buckhurst Hill for 15 years, is hoping to boost the coffers at The Brooke charity.
The Brooke works to improve the lives of the hundreds of thousands horses, donkeys and mules that are put to work in the poorest parts of the world by providing free veterinary cover and support for local owners.
Sian, a divorced mum-of-one, who keeps active in the community by walking local dogs, said: "I was never a cycling enthusiast, but I bought a bike last March and decided I wanted to do something to support The Brooke.
"I have been training in Lea Valley park, and near Connaught Waters, and did two 50 miles rides back-to-back this weekend.
"I know that some people will say I am mad, but I'm enjoying the challenge and looking forward to the ride."
To sponsor Sian, call her on 0208 2791832.
