STUDENTS at Sir George Monoux College have taken part in a “Dragon’s Den”-style entrepreneur search.

The Walthamstow college’s Young Entrepreneur Search (YES) was launched on February 27 and asked students from the business studies department to present their business proposals to a panel of seven judges.

They then faced questions on the viability of their ideas in front of an audience of more than 100 students.

Principal Kim Clifford said: “The YES campaign is about helping our students to develop vital enterprise and employability skills.

“It requires our students to engage in real life business scenarios and means our students have to work in teams, identify creative solutions to problems and think strategically.”

The panel was made up of judges including Strettons director Philip Waterfield and Waltham Forest Council business enterprise manager Manawar Hussain.

Compered by student Dilon Beqa, the event also included three talks from the judges and closed with an award ceremony for the best three businesses.

First place went to Mohamed Seiff and Moyo Olomu for their ‘Xclusive’ business proposal, while Harry Salter, Elena Panteli, Annetha Neuville and Robert Nsiiro took second and Denisha Peswani, Emral Ozdas and Petya Georgieva took third.

The YES campaign launch marks the beginning of a series of employer-related events throughout the year as part of the college’s employer engagement.
