A GRIEVING widow has slammed the eight-year sentence given to the man who stabbed her husband to death in a revenge attack.

Delano Forbes, 36, of New Road, Ilford, was sentenced at the Old Bailey today (Friday) after being found guilty on February 10 of killing father-of-one Kevin McFarlane, 27.

Forbes was originally charged with murder but was found guilty of manslaughter by provocation.

Speaking to the Guardian after the hearing, widow Shantelle McFarlane said: "The sentence is not enough, although nothing could replace Kevin.

"When you consider that knife crime is a problem, what kind of message does this send out? He will be back on the estates in four years."

Forbes is to serve half his sentence in custody and will serve the rest on licence, subject to good behaviour.

He has already spent just over a year in custody.

Mr McFarlane, of Hainault Road, Leytonstone, was stabbed to death after an argument in Plaistow Road, Stratford, at about 5pm on February 8 last year, leaving behind his wife and baby daughter, Kashan.

The Old Bailey heard that earlier on February 8, Mr McFarlane had stabbed Forbes, provoking the later attack.

They then had an argument in William Hill Bookmakers and Forbes chased Mr McFarlane into a hair salon, slashed him in the face and stabbed him in the back.

Mr McFarlane died two days after the attack.

Richard Ferguson QC, mitigating, said the incident happened in just seven minutes so it was not a "prolonged attack".

Jailing Forbes, Judge Martin Stephens said: "The fact is you did receive an injury from a sharp instrument, but what you did then contributed directly to the death of Mr McFarlane.

"If you had listened to your girlfriend, you would have gone to hospital or phoned the police if you had a grievance but you decided to take the law into your own hands.

"You chased him into a hair salon and on the premises, you slashed his face and brutally stabbed him in the back."

Judge Stephens said Forbes was motivated by "revenge and anger".

He added: "When you plunged that knife into Mr McFarlane's back, I am in no doubt that was a deliberate blow done with the intention of causing serious bodily harm."
