Florin Moisa, 27, a Romanian national living in Walthamstow, was killed on Monday when the BMW 328i coupe he was travelling in crashed into the Bell pub.
He was single and worked as a labourer.
His family have been informed.
Another man, believed to be in his twenties, was also travelling in the sports car.
He was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel with a fracture to his spine.
Police said he is in a serious but stable condition.
A post mortem held today gave the cause of Mr Moisa's death as a head injury.
An inquest was opened and adjourned today at Walthamstow Coroners' Court.
Police are still unclear which man was the driver.
The crash happened between 4.30am and 5am on Monday.
The crash happened inches from the scene where 25-year-old Walthamstow man Bobby Khan died in a car smash in July 2007.
Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit are investigating.
