A THEYDON Mount singer is hoping to skate her way to the stars as part of an all-singing all-skating dance trio.

Girlband The Elody have battled through to the final four of ITV’s Ice Star, despite none of them being able to skate at the start of the show.

They were handpicked for the final by British Ice Skating legends Christopher Dean and Jane Torvill.

Elody member Sally Ewbank, 23, from Theydon Mount, said the band had come a long way since their first audition.

She said: ”The application called for novice skaters, we went for it and we couldn’t skate, they said novices welcome but when we got to the show there were kids, who were fantastic skaters, So we thought 'we’re not going to get through this' - but here we are at the finals.”

Their first act comprised of singing the Phil Collins hit “easy lover” while skating gingerly around the ring.

Their performance didn’t wow Christopher Dean, who told them: “This is called Ice Star and you can't skate"

But Jane Torvill enjoyed the act, telling the four girls: “But you have the performance quality already. We need more ice, but you're through."

They were up against skating strippers and acrobats on ice but the girls vocal skills got them through to the final four acts.

In the meantime the three members taking part Sally, Tanya and Abz are all hoping to improve with long sessions at the Lee Valley Ice Centre in Leyton.

Watching from the sidelines will be band member Natasha, who injured herself in training and has had to sit out.

The winners will perform in the celebrity studded Dancing on Ice final and then go on a national tour along with Torvill and Dean.

Sarah said the band were excited about the final.

She said: “I have always done music - we’re singing and Ice skating at the same time, its really difficult.

“Its a bit like running and singing at the same time, takes a lot of concentration to maintain your voice and stay standing.”

She praised Torvill and Dean, saying: “They’re really nice, they’re so down to earth - just as you see then on TV. Lovely people.”

“My parents and family are over the moon for us"

The grand final of Ice Star is taking place this Sunday (March 15) on ITV1 at 7:15pm.
