TALENTED youngsters raised nearly £600 for a musical therapy charity at a concert in South Woodford last night.

Forest School's Strings, Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir all wowed the crowds at the event, which was held at St Mary's church in South Woodford.

The money raised will go to the Music in Hospitals charity, which helps children and adults through the power of music.

St Mary's Director of Music, Martin Seymour, said: "I was thrilled to have Forest School come again and give a superb concert.

"Various youngsters acted as soloists in movements from string concertos, including the entire double violin concerto by Bach, which will tax even the professional player.

"However, the highlight of the evening was a performance of 'La Oracion del Torero' by Turina by the string quartet which had everyone spell bound not only by the music but the incredibly high standard of playing."

He added: "This is the first in a number of high profile events this year which will include some organ recitals by international performers."
