AN elderly driver miraculously escaped this wreck unharmed after reversing into over a lamppost.

The pensioner appeared to have accidentally put his car into reverse instead of accelerating, ploughing into the post in Connaught Avenue, Chingford.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 9.45am on Sunday, which happened outside The Station House pub.

The driver of the car was treated at the scene for minor injuries by an ambulance crew, but did not require hospital treatment. No one else was involved.

Firefighters were called, but the driver had managed to escape the car before they arrived.
