DEADLY asbestos particles did not escape into the atmosphere during a fire in an Indian restaurant.
Crews were called to Shelz, in Hale End Road, Highams Park, at 8.20am on Tuesday.
A fire had broken out in an extension at the rear of the restaurant.
When fire-fighters found asbestos in the walls of the building a specialist was called in to assess the danger.
The council also sent specialists to examine the walls.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "Hazardous material specialists assessed evidence from the scene and was confident that the incident caused no danger to members of the public."
