AN Ilford boy has been appointed a Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for 2009/2010.

Cadet flight Seargeant Ajvir Sandhu,19, a Woodford Air Training Corps (ATC) Cadet, a member of 241 (Wanstead and Woodford) Squadron, is a student at Ilford County High School.

He was awarded his certificate and badge at the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Greater London (RFCA GL) Awards Ceremony held recently in Fulham.

During their year as Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet they will attend the Lord-Lieutenant on a wide range of his duties.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Ajvir Sandhu said: “I am honoured to be nominated for such a prestigious award and excited about the duties and opportunities which lie ahead.”

On presentation of the Awards, Sir David Brewer, President of the Reserve Forces Cadets Association Greater London, and Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, said: “Your citations were outstanding to listen to and your parents, I am sure, are very proud of you all.

“I look forward to us all working together and hope you will enjoy the events of the forthcoming year.”

The Lord-Lieutenant appoints young people from each of the Armed Services to serve for one year as Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets. These Cadets are chosen in conjunction with the RFCA and are the star cadets in the various cadet forces.
