WHIPPS CROSS University Hospital has made significant improvements in tackling infections, a watchdog has found.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC), England's new umbrella health regulator, says the trust is meeting targets for preventing healthcare associated infections (HCAI) such as MRSA and C. Diff.
Director of Nursing Cathy Geddes said: "We are extremely pleased to have received the highest position of unconditional HCAI registration.
"This reflects the continuous hard work being carried out by staff within the Trust to control and prevent infections, with high standards in hand hygiene and cleanliness across the board."
According to NHS figures, Whipps Cross recorded 0.8 MRSA infections per 10,000 bed days and patients have awarded an average rating of 6.7/10 for levels of cleanliness.
The CQC came into being on April 1 and assumed responsibility for standards in health, mental health and adult social care across England.
Of the 388 trusts in England which were registered, 21 were given conditional status because they did not meet minimum standards.
