ARTIST'S impressions of a large school to be built witihin the 2012 Olympic Village have been released.
The facility, described as a "world-class new education campus" by Olympic bosses, will be built north of the Stratford City shopping complex close to the Waltham Forest border.
Providing places for 1,800 pupils, the facility will be called Chobham Academy and will contain nursery, primary and secondary schools, including a sixth-foirm.
The academy, which will specialise in performing arts and English, will also include a community arts centre, sports facilites and day care.
ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: “Chobham Academy will be a world-class development and puts an educational legacy at the heart of our regeneration ambitions for east London.
"The Olympic Village will create thousands of new homes for Londoners and the Academy will be at the heart of the new facilities we are building to serve new and existing communities for generations to come.”
Planning permission has been granted and the academy, which is being developed by the ODA and private firm Lend Lease, is due to open in September 2013.
As well as the Academy, thousands of new homes will be built on the Olympic Village site after the Games.
