A PLATFORM at a model railway station was unveiled to visitors on Sunday.
Roy Berg, chairman of the Chingford and District Model Engineering Club welcomed representatives of the London Borough of Waltham Forest to the club's railway at Ridgeway Park, Chingford to open the platform, which serves the club’s 5” gauge miniature railway.
After the formal opening, Endlebury ward councillor, Cllr Matt Davis, joined visitors for a ride on a train through the station.
The club, which is 60 years old this year, was awarded £5,685 last year by The North Chingford Community Council to replace the old platform which had been laid more than 25 years ago.
It took all winter to resurface it while the station was closed and to improve disabled access.
Much of the work was carried out by club volunteers who gave up their time to complete the project, often working in adverse weather conditions.
The railway is open to the public every Sunday afternoon from 2pm until 5.30 pm until the end of September.
