The half-brother of Tottenham and England striker Jermain Defoe has died after being attacked in the street.
Jade Defoe, 26, suffered serious head injuries in the attack in Walnut Gardens, on the Stratford/Leytonstone border, at around 5pm Monday.
He was taken to hospital where he died on Friday night.
A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with death on Tuesday.
He was released on bail but re-arrested on Friday and remains in custody.
A post-mortem will take place later today (Saturday).
A police spokesman said: "We do not believe a weapon was used during the assault.
"We retain an open mind as to any motive and inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident."
Defoe did not travel with his Spurs teammates for today's (Saturday) match against Manchester United because of Jade's death, it has been reported.
A statement on the Spurs website said: "Our thoughts are with Jermain and his family at this sad time. The club will be giving him both time and support whilst respecting his and his family's privacy."
The former West Ham United player helped recently to launch the latest 'Kickz' programme, an initiative to help keep teenagers who are likely to get into trouble off the streets by getting them to participate in sport.
The launch happened at the Kelmscott Leisure Centre in Walthamstow.
