A 76-year-old man had to be cut out of his vehicle and airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon following a collision on London Road, Stanford Rivers.

Two firecrews from Brentwood and one rescue crew from Harlow were called to the scene shortly before 5pm yesterday after reports that two cars had been involved in a crash.

The 76-year-old man suffered a laceration to the back of his head and had shoulder pains.

Crews from Harlow and Brentwood released the pensioner who was treated by paramedics at the scene before being flown to Queen's Hospital in Romford.

A spokeswoman from Essex Ambulance said: "His injuries are not believed to be serious but he is still undergoing assessments."
