WHIPPS Cross University Hospital has put out information on preventing the spread of swine flu following a confirmed case of the illness in London.
The hospital has warned people to be "especially vigilant" and has stated that it is taking the issue "very seriously".
The guidance, from NHS London, is "part of normal emergency preparedness planning in ensuring the NHS is best able to respond."
People are also being advised to seek treatment through their GPs rather than attending hospital and can also call NHS Direct for information on 0845 46 47.
Anyone with flu-like symptoms should stay at home and avoid visiting patients on the wards.
If anyone does attend the hospital and meets the criteria for a suspected case of swine flu, Whipps Cross will be following its existing flu policy.
General infection control advice
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible.
- Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully.
- Maintain good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water and then drying, to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people.
- Clean hard surfaces (e.g. door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product.
- Make sure your children follow this advice.
