BOGUS callers are being clamped down on by Redbridge Council in a new scheme.
The number of Doorstep Calling Restricted Zones is set to increase taking the total number of residents covered from 6,000 to 10,000.
The zones have already proven a success in the borough with 89 per cent of residents feeling safer at home as a result.
Mayville resident, Nirmal Lukhman, who will now be covered by the scheme said: “We are sure this will make a big difference in our road and put off unwanted callers.”
Since its introduction instances of distraction burglary in the area have significantly reduced and the scheme helps vulnerable residents to say “no” to callers, reducing doorstep crime.
Ms Lukhman added: “This is very good news for our neighbourhood and we are very happy.”
Anyone unhappy with cold callers and wanting a zone set up in their area can call Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
