TWO young men who posed as police officers to steal money from motorists have been jailed.
Syed Mohiwan, 19, of Balfour Road, Ilford, and Ali Liakat, 20, of Juliette Road, Plaistow, rigged a blue flashing lights and siren on their car and demanded on-the-spot fines for speeding or driving without insurance.
The two former Newham College students used fake stab vests, police batons, handcuffs, fluorescent clothing, police-style radios and Met Police warrant cards to convince their victims.
Crimes were recorded in Collier Row, Rainham, Loughton, Waltham Cross and further afield. Police suspect there may have been more victims of the duo.
Both were jailed for two years after being found guilty of theft and impersonating police officers.
