LITTLE book worms were treated to a story time with a difference this week as Iain Duncan Smith became a narrator for a day.
The Conservative MP had a captive audience at his local library in Woodford Green last Friday when he introduced a group of 20 toddlers to his favourite children's book.
Mr Duncan Smith, who was there to celebrate Redbridge Book and Media Festival, said: "The book I read was Farmer Duck, which I read to my own children many years ago.
"It's one where you have to go through all the noises so everyone really enjoyed it and got involved.
"All my children are grown up now so they've moved on a little from Farmer Duck, but it was great fun to revisit it.
"We forget how much it means to children to have stories read to them and you could see from the looks on their faces that they were totally riveted."
The Woodford Green MP, who finished the afternoon with a few verses of 'The Wheels on the Bus,' said his family have always used the library for everything from books to DVDs.
He added: "People think of them as added extras but then they go and they miss them.
"I think they should be the last thing to go because they encourage children to read, which is totally essential for development."
