A GROUP of morris dancers from Walthamstow have taken part in a “sweeps” festival.
The Blackhorse and Standard North West Morris ladies’ side travelled to Rochester, in Kent to dance at the annual event, the history of which stretches back 400 years.
Based on a special holiday originally designated for child chimney sweeps, the modern day festival includes music, dancing and entertainment in the streets of Rochester.
The side also recently celebrated St George’s Day by performing and teaching dances to local cub, scout and beaver groups at the Fairmead Campsite, High Beech.
If you would like to join the Blackhorse and Standard North West Morris ladies’ side, call 8527 2926 or visit blackhorseandstandard.org.uk for more information.
The side meet between 8pm and 10pm at St Gabriel's Family Centre, Havant Road, Walthamstow.
