NO-ONE will be prosecuted for a road crash which saw a traffic campaigner die later in hospital.
Peggy Dorrington, 85, of Wheelers Farm Gardens, North Weald, was struck by a Range Rover in North Weald High Road, just yards from where she had campaigned to have a crossing installed.
She died at St Margaret’s Hospital two weeks later, but police have said a post-mortem revealed her death was not from any injuries sustained in the collision.
A 43-year-old man arrested at the time on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has now been released without charge.
Mrs Dorrington was a well-known figure in the local community and had campaigned for years for a crossing opposite the shops at Bassett Parade.
Her death sparked renewed calls for extra traffic calming measures, but Essex County Council has so far indicated no new plans for the area.
