MORE than 300 youths descended on St Mary’s Church, Loughton, for the climax to the Battle of the Bands.
Friends, fans and family of the six performing acts took their seats and were handed electronic voting devices to help determine which local young musicians would win a free professional recording session at Soundlab Studios.
Colourful signs and banners were handed out to supporters of each act, while the judging panel comprised James Horwood from Soundlab Studios, Cliff Cooper from the Loughton Music Academy, and District Council chairman John Knapman.
Following the six performances a tense voting session took place which initially produced a three-way tie.
The eventual winners were declared as the Dayglo Freaks who duly took to the stage for a final encore of Use Somebody by the Kings of Leon.
The event marked the end of the L Factor set up by the Loughton Youth Project Youth project manager Nick Robinson described the event as “a brilliant evening”.
