POLICE have issued a fresh witness appeal following a hit-and-run accident in Leytonstone High Road.
A man in his 60s suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a motorbike at a pedestrian crossing near Leytonstone Methodist Church at about 9.30am on April 9.
The rider of the motorbike fled the scene on foot without his helmet and although witnesses gave chase, they were unable to catch him.
The victim was hit as the rider pulled out to pass a W14 bus and suffered a blood clot in his brain, as well as a broken arm and bruising to his eye socket.
He was in hospital for about a week and a half and is now recovering at home.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Clifford Blackshaw said: "We're looking for anyone who saw a man running away from the scene of the accident.
"If someone was coming from the opposite direction, they would have seen this person."
Police will be carrying out a new witness appeal on May 14 between 9.30am and 10.30am and will question motorists who may have seen anything on the morning of the accident, as well as handing out leaflets.
Det Sgt Blackshaw said: "The purpose is twofold - to identify how dangerous the incident was and to see if anyone recognised the suspect."
Anyone with information is urged to contact either Det Sgt Blackshaw or Detective Constable Naz Rehman at Chingford CID on 8345 3153.
No specific description of the suspect has been released by police.
