A NEW book which has just gone on sale includes places in the Epping Forest District for parents to take their children during the school holidays.

'Let's Go with the Children' offers ideas and inspirations for days out in England, aimed at families looking for cheaper alternatives to a holiday abroad.

The Lee Valley Park Farms in Waltham Abbey appears in the book and is described as a "fantastic experience."

Visitors are able to look around a dairy farm and get up close and personal with the cows and watch and learn about the milking process.

Epping Forest District Museum on Sun Street, Waltham Abbey also features in the book.

Education and Outreach Officer Catherine Hammond said: "We are very pleased to appear in this book and hope it will bring more visitors to the museum. We offer a great range of family friendly activities during the school holidays, most of which are free of charge."

Another attraction includes the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey which is described a "magical day out for all ages."

The historic site is set in 170 acres of natural parkland and includes interactive exhibitions, an air raid shelter, guided tractor ride and re-enactments of historical events.

The book, published by Boomerang Family costs £3.75 and is available from most supermarkets, WH Smith and Waterstones.

It covers 14 regions, broken down into sections of interest such as budding naturalists, little historians and adventure explorers.

Marketing Manager Julia Hart said: "The economic downturn not only makes the working week a little more worrisome but when you do have the chance to take a break, you feel like you still need to save money.

"A recent survey suggested that more than half of us will stay in the UK this year and whilst this may not initially seem like the most appealing prospect, for families with children there is a world of adventure and hidden gems to be found on English turf."
