WE were very dismayed to hear that the Leytonstone Street Wardens are to be axed (‘Uproar as axe falls on popular street wardens’, Guardian, April 30) They have given us a lot of support over the years, keeping an eye on our vulnerable neighbours and patrolling our local streets.
At Christmas they organised a lovely dinner for about 30 elderly residents, cooked by the wardens themselves.
They have built up a good relationship with local schoolchildren and adults alike and they will all be greatly missed.
