A YOUTH project has recieved a £22,000 boost from a charitable trust to help them set up a new “youth space” in Loughton.

The Charles S French Trust, has given the cash to the Loughton Youth Project (LYP) to help fund a new youth drop-in area at Loughton Library in Traps Hill.

The LYP was set up in 2006 and aims to provide youth events and services.

Organisers are currently setting up a youth radio station and are about to open a new recording studio, also based in Loughton.

LYP project Manager Nick Robinson said: "It’s brilliant news, the timing is really good, and the money will go a long way to help the set up of the community radio station. The LYP is about finding a way for disenfranchised young people to find employment and training opportunities, so yes, we’re very pleased.”

The trust, set up 50 years ago by Charles French, the Chairman of the former Buckhurst Hill civil Engineering company W and C French, gives around £150,000 of grants anually to deserving local projects.
