A NEW law has been introduced to encourage people to recycle batteries.
The UK Battery Recycling legislation introduced by Parliament on May 5 requires households to stop throwing away household batteries and local councils and shops to be better at collecting and recycling.
Despite aggressive targets, research at Moixa Energy, a re-usable battery company, found that awareness on where to recycle batteries is very low, with most consumers either throwing their dead batteries in the rubbish or stockpiling them at home.
In response, Moixa has launched a website with a map showing all battery collection points throughout Waltham Forest including those offered by local shops, as well as advice on battery recycling.
Schools wishing to join the campaign can download posters from the website and get information on setting-up recycling bins.
