POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a bank card stolen from an elderly woman was used to buy goods in Ilford.
The 91-year-old was burgled while she slept on April 25, when a couple gained access to her bungalow in North Benfleet through an unlocked kitchen door.
Her purse and mobile phone were taken along with bank cards before the couple went on a spending spree.
The thieves withdrew approximately £1,000 and used the money to buy items from the Co-op at Tarpots, Tesco in Pitsea, and at a shop in Ilford.
The man is described as white, in his 30s or 40s, over 6ft tall and of large build with cropped brown hair.
His female accomplice is also white, in her 30s and 40s, of medium build and approximately 5ft 8in tall.
