A PUPIL at a Walthamstow school has won a competition to design a piece of artwork for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.
Mobina Meshkati, 13, who is in Year 8 at Willowfield School, Clifton Avenue, was the borough winner for Waltham Forest in the secondary schools category of the Fourth Plinth Schools Awards.
Asked to design an image conveying a message of global or national importance, she created a painting illustrating the positive and negative impact humans have on natural resources and the environment.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "The image of a tree growing out of the earth illustrates our dependency on natural resources to survive.
"A dove carrying an olive branch alights on the left and a gun is directed at the planet from the right - metaphors for our potential for both good and evil and reminding us of the ultimate consequences our actions could have on the future of the world."
Mobina also attended the Fourth Plinth Schools Awards ceremony at City Hall on May 15. All winning entries are on display at a public exhibition being held at City Hall.
