SHOPPERS in Epping were given free ultra violet marker pens to protect their personal belongings.
The goodies were given out as part of a new scheme set up by the police and Trading Standards to help prevent rogue traders and bogus callers entering homes across the district.
People were able to speak with officers at an information stall on the high street and were given advice about how to avoid becoming a victim.
The week long operation will be held across the district in Waltham Abbey, Ongar, Debden and Abridge.
Epping Forest district commander Alan Ray said: "We want our residents to have the best advice and support possible in ensuring they make the right decisions on who they let into their homes."
