MORE people live in poverty in outer London boroughs like Waltham Forest than in inner city areas, research has revealed.

The City Parochial Foundation has found that 54 per cent of Londoners on a low wage live in borough’s on the outskirts of the city.

This compares to 50 per cent ten years ago and national statistics show 380,000 children in outer London live in poverty, compared to 270,000 in central boroughs.

The research by the charitable trust also found that a higher proportion of people live below the poverty line in London than in any other region in England.

Inner London boroughs have historically received more funding than outer London boroughs.

Report author Peter Kenway said: "Tackling London's long term problems cannot wait until after the recession."

"We need urgent action on housing, on employment and on low pay. "We need the government, London's mayor, our local councils and the wider public and voluntary sectors to work together to give London the future it deserves."
