ALL the excitement of a night out at the movies has arrived in-house at one secondary school.

St John’s School, in Tower Road, Epping has opened a filmclub for year 7s to enjoy their favourite pictures in the comfort of their own classroom.

It has proved big success with 40 students now signed up as members all enjoying a Friday afternoon in front of the flicks.

The filmclub is run for free in collaboration with The Guardian, Film Education and the UK Film Council as part of a nationwide project to encourage young people to become more enthusiastic about film.

Year 7 progress leader Mary Cryer said: “As soon as I heard about filmclub I knew it would be popular with our Year 7s. Our students love watching the films and then having an opportunity to review them online. I think we all enjoy this opportunity to relax at the end of a busy week, in fact we often have a couple of teachers that join us too.”
