POLICE have launched a crackdown on rogue callers and bogus traders going to people’s homes in Epping Forest.
Operation Liberal, a week-long county wide project, is aimed at preventing and detering illegal trading activities, and raising awareness of how to find a trusted trader.
Stalls in locations around the district will have leaflets on preventing crime and free goodies, such as ultraviolet pens for marking property.
They will be in Debden Broadway on Thursday, May 21, and at Abridge Village Hall on Friday, May 22, between 10am and 3pm.
Epping Forest district commander Alan Ray said: “We want our residents to have the best advice and support possible in ensuring they make the right decisions on who they let into their homes.”
They offer common-sense advice to avoid falling victim to high pressure selling techniques.
The public is advised to check doorstep sellers’ identities, ask questions, never sign immediately, remember the right to cancel within seven days if spending over £35, and, if in doubt, to ask the seller to leave.
Trading Standards and Epping Forest Safer Communities Team are supporting the scheme.
