AS an international greyhound protection organisation, we hope very much that L&Q will totally reject any attempts to bring dog racing back to Walthamstow Stadium (Guardian, May 15th).
Our latest research indicates that as many as 15,000 greyhounds, bred for the British racing industry, are put to death annually, after failing to make the grade as racers or when their “careers” end.
What is needed therefore, is for more greyhound tracks to be closed down, rather than for an already closed one to be reopened.
What we would also like to see is members of the public refusing to attend greyhound tracks and refraining from betting on dog racing, so that this appalling death-industry fades away through lack of financial support.
